Facebook: Your Status Is Too Long

Why won’t facebook allow its users to post extended status messages onto their streams? Earlier today I wanted to post a joke as a status update, but sadly I was denied. Apparently I had exceeded a 420 character limit.
Why can’t I post something a bit longer? I don’t want to write a Note as this update is more of an “in the moment” sort of thing, and we all know that Facebook Notes act like blog posts. In other words, they are around to stay long after they have been published. Status updates? Not so much. They disappear into oblivion after a week or two, which is exactly what I would like to see happen with the update I was trying to post.
So let me make sure I understand this logic… I can update my status with pictures, videos, links and even location data! But not an extended amount of text? Something isn’t making much sense here.
Anyways, here’s the joke that I was trying to post:
Two married buddies are out drinking one night when one turns to the other and says, “You know, I don’t know what else to do. Whenever I go home after we’ve been out drinking, I turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway. I shut off the engine and coast into the garage. I take my shoes off before I go into the house, I sneak up the stairs, I get undressed in the bathroom. I ease into bed and my wife STILL wakes up and yells at me for staying out so late!”
His buddy looks at him and says, “Well, you’re obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam the door, storm up the steps, throw my shoes into the closet, jump into bed, rub my hands on my wife’s butt and say, ‘Lets do it!’
….and she’s always sound asleep.
